Get on board our centennial celebration of CN with this colourful coin! Order today!

We’re marking CN’s centennial year with a 25-cent coin that connects the past with the present. The unique red and black freight train—it’s a familiar sight on today’s tracks, which wrap around the coin’s rim. While the rail map hints at CN’s legacy, the engraved steam locomotive is a more nostalgic nod to a time when these chugging and whistling engines criss-crossed a young Canada.

The perfect coin for rail enthusiasts, young and old! Order today!

Special features:
  • OUR MOST AFFORDABLE 2019 TRAIN-THEMED COIN. Priced at just $29.95, this special 25-cent coin is our most affordable train-themed coin in 2019. It’s the perfect gift for rail enthusiasts, young and old.
  • A RAIL-THEMED CENTENNIAL. We’re commemorating CN’s centennial year by celebrating its legacy and its place in our history.
  • TRACKS FORM THE RIM. Instead of denticles, train tracks run along the rim on your coin’s reverse.
  • SELECTIVE USE OF COLOUR. Selective colour highlights the red and white freight locomotives that are a familiar sight today across Canada.
  • TWO WELL-KNOWN LOCOMOTIVES. CN 6218, a 4-8-4 Northern steam locomotive; and the red-and-white CN 2557, an MLW M-420 diesel-electric locomotive.
  • MAPPING CN’S IMPACT. In the background, a stylized rail map hints at CN’s legacy of connecting communities across Canada.

Design:

Designed by Tony Bianco, your coin celebrates the 100th anniversary of Canadian National Railway (CN) by featuring two locomotives that represent the past and present. The coloured engine is CNR 2557, an MLW M-420 diesel-electric locomotive. Beneath the modern-day workhorse is CNR 6218, a steam-driven 4-8-4 Northern locomotive built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1942. Instead of denticles, train tracks circle the rim and frame a stylized map that alludes to the railway’s impact across Canada. The reverse includes the face value “25 CENTS”, the commemorative dates “1919” and “2019”, and the word “CANADA”. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

Packaging:

Your coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded clamshell with a black beauty box.
