The Mint is hiring an Operator – Refinery who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Refinery Operations, the Operator – Refinery performs process and production activities in the following areas: premelt, chlorination, silver and gold melt, hydromet, sweeps, kilo bar furnace, grain charge preparation and water treatment. This includes operating, monitoring and controlling equipment, handling depositors and product materials, preparing work and operating supplies, performing material handling and maintenance tasks, monitoring safety and security, preparing records, shift work report, performing housekeeping tasks and participating in the training of employees.
Your Responsibilities:
- Operating, monitoring, and controlling equipment
- Calibration and adjustments of operating equipment
- Process and production activities
- Reporting
- Material handling- must be able to lift at least 69 pounds (31,30 g)
- Performing all tasks safely
This opening is to be filled on a continuous operation and/or shift work basis.
Qualifications:
Language Requirements:
- One official language (English or French) is mandatory; the second official language is an asset
Education
- Successful completion of a Highschool diploma or equivalent or higher.
- A DEP, DEC, college diploma or a certificate in metallurgy, foundry, or other related degree in metal processing will be preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 3 months of experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment
Additional Qualifications
Skills and Abilities:
To perform various tasks such as:
- Manual lifting/handling of material
- Use of high precision scales
- Use of computers to perform ERP transactions, emails and record keeping
- Operation of equipment such as hoists/cranes, hand pallet trucks, forklifts
- Safe use of hand tools such as hammer, hand grinder, tongs, ratchet, pliers
- Perform checks, calibration and adjustment of production equipment
- Ability to perform all of the Refinery Operator duties
- Ability to work safely and in a conscientious manner in a foundry environment
- Ability to work in accordance with ISO policy and procedures and work instructions
Knowledge:
- Ability to work safely and in a conscientious manner in a foundry environment
- Ability to work in accordance with ISO policy and procedures and work instructions
- Demonstrated skills in activities related to the operation of process and service equipment related to the Operator – Refinery functions.
- Possess basic understanding of the process activities, process materials, products, and byproducts in refinery.
- Knowledge of the Royal Canadian Mint and its product lines
