The Mint is hiring a Manager, Facilities who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Services and Facilities. The Facilities Manager, is responsible for managing all activities related to the building assets owned/leased by the RCM. This is achieved through managing budgets, projects and contracts, auditing the installations for compliance, conducting technical studies, implementing best maintenance practices, providing technical expertise for the day to day needs of the organisation including supervising office moves and renovations. The incumbent is responsible for leading a team of approximately 1 person.
This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring on-site presence at our Ottawa location three to five days per week, depending on meeting requirements and other activities.
Your Responsibilities:
- Long-range space-planning and daily management of building and office services.
- Manages and provides support to capital maintenance and/or improvement projects.
- Manages capital program to ensure major building repairs are budgeted and planned accurately.
- Oversees the review of building systems and structures to ensure compliance with relevant codes.
- Manages all contractors responsible for all building maintenance, e.g. cleaning, cafeteria, landscaping, snow removal and other related contracts.
- Ensures contractor standards are met and identifies any improvements/maintenance that is required.
- Works with corporate purchasing to negotiate leases (new, renewals, terminations), building contracts and satellite office locations.
- Works with corporate and external designers to ensure maximum efficiency with respect to space allocation, office and furniture standards, site/operational capital projects and initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains standards and guidelines for use of offices and shared spaces.
- Manages and coordinates renovation and relocation projects with focus on ensuring code compliance, controlling costs and minimizing disruptions to production processes and employees.
- Provides technical expertise and strategic direction in the form of advising and guiding corporate personnel on building and office space related issues.
- Oversees office plan and logistics and coordinates with supporting departments the relocation of desks, workstations, computers, phone lines and other relevant hardware.
- Coordinates and oversees building and site infrastructures inpections to validate structural integrity.
- Ensures office areas and shared spaces (e.g., conference rooms, lobby, washrooms, locker room, employee gym, outdoor patios) meet applicable standards for indoor air quality, lighting, sanitation, etc.
- Generates KPI spending reports for contracts.
- Initiates continuous improvement initiatives to reduce spending on building services contracts and utilities.
- Coordinates with Protective Services on disaster recovery and emergency response procedures.
- Liaises with NCC, FHBRO, City of Ottawa and other agencies on building-related services.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in both official languages (English / French) is required at the time of hire. If no qualified candidate fully meets the required levels, other candidate language profiles may be considered in accordance with the Mint’s Staffing Policy. The linguistic profile for this position is:

Education & Designation:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Engineering, Facilities Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset.
- Project management certification.
Experience:
- 7 to 10 years experience in maintenance and facilities management.
- Thorough knowledge of building structural codes and Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Advanced knowledge in building systems (HVAC, BAS, Industrial ventilation, Fire Protection, etc.) in a commercial/institutional/industrial environment.
- Project management, organizational & analytical skills.
- Customer service centric.
- Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written.
