In the centre portion of the design, the artist’s take on the royal brooch is positioned between the words “CANADA” and “DOLLAR” and the double dates “1926-2026” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of Queen Elizabeth II, whose Royal Cypher appears at the top. The negative space within the filigree forms the shape of a maple leaf, with 13 leaves representing each of Canada’s provinces and territories. The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
