About
Canada’s National Tower turns 50.
Since opening to the public on June 26, 1976, the CN Tower has stood as an iconic beacon and symbol—of Toronto, of Canada, and of what can happen when imagination and innovation converge. The 2026 $2 commemorative circulation coin celebrates Canada’s tallest freestanding structure on the 50th anniversary of its official opening. Each Special Wrap Roll contains 25 struck (engraved only) coins with the same view of Toronto’s evolving skyline, where the CN Tower stands as a testament to Canada’s optimism and ingenuity.
A towering achievement: Celebrating Canada’s CN Tower.
Special features
- The CN Tower turns 50. Join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the CN Tower—Canada’s glowing icon that has been lighting up the Toronto skyline and Canadian hearts since 1976!
- A collecting highlight of 2026. Poised to be among the most talked-about coins in 2026, this engraved-only edition is a striking counterpart to the glow-in-the-dark $2 issue. It strips the design down to its essence, becoming a study in light, shadow and detail.
- A fun theme for 2026. Perfect for those who can’t get enough of Toronto’s CN Tower—whether you’ve admired it from afar, from the ground, or even gazed out from its heights. The design makes this a fun piece for all ages, and a Special Wrap Roll makes it easy to collect and share.
- Collect Canada’s circulation coins by the roll. Each Non-colourized Special Wrap Roll contains 25 engraved (no colour nor glow technology) 50th Anniversary of the CN Tower $2 coins, which come bundled together in a custom paper wrap. Looking for the glow-in-the-dark version? A Colourized Special Wrap Roll is also available—collect both!
- All are uncirculated coins. The 25 coins in each Special Wrap Roll are uncirculated: they all have a newly minted quality.
- Limited supply. Limited to 15,000 rolls.
Features
Past and present
Toronto’s changing skyline is represented by the silhouettes engraved on the outer ring, while within the core design, the 1976 cityscape stands in the shadow of today’s taller skyscrapers.
A view of the reverse design, visible on one or both ends of the roll
Each coin included in the Special Wrap Roll has a reverse and obverse design. The production process and quality assurance for uncirculated Special Wrap Rolls allows for either the reverse design on both ends, or the reverse design on one end and the obverse on the other. It is not possible for the Mint to guarantee or foresee which of the two versions will be shipped.

Designed by Canadian illustrator Carl Wiens, the coin’s reverse commemorates the 50th anniversary (“50 YEARS ANS”) of the official opening of the CN Tower (“LA TOUR CN TOWER”) on June 26, 1976. The inner core features a view of the CN Tower overlooking Lake Ontario and dominating a contemporary downtown Toronto skyline, whose tall skyscrapers tower above an outline of the city’s skyline as it appeared in 1976. Additional silhouettes on the outer ring represent five decades of growth and architectural evolution, with the skyline in 1976 appearing on the left and the 2026 cityscape on the right—a visual record of Toronto’s transformation into a modern, world-class city. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
