About
Skyline and hearts aglow: Canada’s National Tower turns 50.
Only the second glow-in-the-dark Canadian circulation coin, the 2026 $2 commemorative circulation coin celebrates Canada’s tallest freestanding structure, the CN Tower, on the 50th anniversary of its official opening. Each Colourized Special Wrap Roll contains 25 of these colourful glow-enhanced collectibles, and every one of them offers the same fun view of the Tower-dominated Toronto skyline—past, present, and, when viewed in the dark, aglow at night.
A glow-in-the-dark celebration of Canada’s CN Tower.
Special features
- The CN Tower turns 50. Join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the opening of the CN Tower—Canada’s glowing icon that has been lighting up the Toronto skyline and Canadian hearts since 1976.
- A collecting highlight of 2026. The glow-in-the-dark $2 piece is destined to become one of the most talked-about coins in 2026, and a future favourite among those who appreciate innovation in design.
- Canada’s second glow-in-the-dark circulation coin. This is only the second time we’ve produced a circulation coin with photo-luminescent (glow-in-the-dark) technology (the first was the 2017 My Canada, My Inspiration $2 coin). A Special Wrap Roll makes it easy to collect and share.
- Collect Canada’s circulation coins by the roll. Each Colourized Special Wrap Roll contains 25 colourful glow-in-the-dark 50th Anniversary of the CN Tower $2 coins, which come bundled together in a custom paper wrap. A Non-colourized Special Wrap Roll of engraved-only $2 coins is also available—collect both versions.
- Past and present. Toronto’s evolving skyline is represented by the silhouettes engraved on the outer ring, while within the core design, the 1976 cityscape (in black) stands in the shadow of today’s taller skyscrapers (darker blue).
- All are uncirculated coins. The 25 coins in each Special Wrap Roll are uncirculated: they all have a newly minted quality and feature the same selectively coloured, glow-in-the-dark reverse design.
- Fun for all ages. Perfect for those who can’t get enough of Toronto’s CN Tower—whether you’ve admired it from afar, from the ground, or even gazed out from its heights. A great way to share your interest in coins with family, friends, and new collectors!
- Limited supply. Limited to 25,000 rolls.
Features
Day and night
Hold your coin under an ultraviolet light source to activate the photo-luminescent (glow-in-the-dark) technology, then move to a dark room to see the CN Tower and the Toronto skyline lit up at night.
A view of the reverse design, visible on one or both ends of the roll
Each coin included in the Special Wrap Roll has a reverse and obverse design. The production process and quality assurance for uncirculated Special Wrap Rolls allows for either the reverse design on both ends, or the reverse design on one end and the obverse on the other. It is not possible for the Mint to guarantee or foresee which of the two versions will be shipped.

Designed by Canadian illustrator Carl Wiens, the coin’s reverse commemorates the 50th anniversary (“50 YEARS ANS”) of the official opening of the CN Tower (“LA TOUR CN TOWER”) on June 26, 1976. The inner core features a view of the CN Tower overlooking Lake Ontario and dominating a contemporary downtown Toronto skyline, whose tall skyscrapers tower above an outline of the city’s skyline as it appeared in 1976. When the photo-luminescent (glow-in-the-dark) technology is activated on the colourized coin, the scene shows the CN Tower and skyline illuminated at night, reflecting Toronto’s vibrant energy. Additional silhouettes on the outer ring represent five decades of growth and architectural evolution, with the skyline in 1976 appearing on the left and the 2026 cityscape on the right—a visual record of Toronto’s transformation into a modern, world-class city. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
