“In 2007, the Million Dollar Coin redefined what was possible in minting—a symbol of Canadian innovation and craftsmanship. Today, as we create a new Million Dollar Coin, we pay tribute to that legacy while showcasing how far technology and artistry have come. It is not just a coin; it is a celebration of excellence, past and present.”

Stan Witten, Former Senior Engraver (Retired) and Artist

“Looking back, it’s exciting, even humbling, to have my initials appear on such a storied coin, one of the highlights of my 35-year career. This was my own concept, pulled from my imagination and drawn using coloured pencils to capture the movement and colour in early fall—three leaves in motion, still holding on in all their glory.”

Aida Alves, 3D Artist-Engraver

“For the textured pattern, I followed a path taken by Stan Witten before me, turning to nature for inspiration. I spotted a beautiful silver maple tree nearby, and felt compelled to work from the leaves themselves—reference photos simply couldn’t capture the detail I needed. I arranged the leaves in an overlapping composition, creating a collage that appears on the coin’s reverse but is more apparent on the obverse, where raised veins suggest the leaf’s underside and sunken veins evoke the top surface.”

“Leading the development of this tribute coin has been a privilege, and an opportunity to unite innovation with tradition. Every detail, from the design to the premium packaging, celebrates rarity, craftsmanship and Canadian heritage, honouring the original as an enduring statement of prestige and artistry.”
