About
The Royal Canadian Legion: Past to present, reflected in Remembrance.
During The Royal Canadian Legion’s Centenary in 2026, we honour an organization born from the sacrifices of Canada’s earlier Veterans—those who answered the call in the First World War and paved the way for generations of service to come.
Complementing the 2026 Fine Silver Proof Dollar, this 99.99% pure gold coin embodies the Legion’s enduring mission: one half of the design is a First World War tableau, evoking Canada’s contribution to the Allied effort and war time sacrifices that gave rise to the Legion itself; the other shows two present-day Legion members in reflection. Featured in both scenes, the Poppy—that revered symbol, proudly protected by the Legion—symbolizes the unbroken cycle of Remembrance connecting generations of Canadians.
A historical reflection honouring a legacy of Remembrance.

Designed by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw, the reverse features a split image that honours The Royal Canadian Legion’s past, present and future, as the organization celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026. On the right is a depiction of two present-day Legion members in Legion dress reflecting on the past, which is represented by the scene on the left. This snapshot of history is filled with symbols representing Canada’s contribution to the Allied effort during the First World War and the sacrifices that gave rise to The Royal Canadian Legion: a Canadian infantryman, symbolizing the Army’s unifying effect and pivotal engagements like the Battle of Vimy Ridge; above him, the Royal Aircraft Factory Scout Experimental 5a (S.E.5a) aircraft flown by many Canadian aces during the war; and on the horizon, HMCS Niobe, a Diadem-class protected cruiser commissioned in 1910 into service with the newly formed Naval Service of Canada (later the Royal Canadian Navy). A Poppy in each half—one above, one below—represents an enduring cycle of Remembrance, connecting generations and honouring the pledge to never forget those who served and sacrificed in defence of freedom. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
