About
Justice and Truth: Canada’s highest court marks its 150th anniversary.
It is our country’s highest court, and court of last resort – the impartial arbiter in legal matters of public importance; the final authority in the application of our laws; and the upholder of the rights of all Canadians.
In 2025, the Supreme Court of Canada marks the 150th anniversary of its creation (on April 8, 1875), a significant milestone commemorated on the $1 coins contained in each special wrap roll. Inside every colourized special wrap roll, all 25 coins bear a blue anniversary logo as part of an engraved design that honours the Court’s history and its continuing contributions to Canada’s legal landscape and democracy, specifically its role in upholding the rule of law, building public trust, and serving Canadians.
Honouring a pillar of Canadian society and democracy.
Special features
- Understanding one of Canada’s most important institutions. As Canada’s top court recognizes its 150th year in 2025, the $1 150th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada commemorative circulation coin marks the occasion with an inspiring view of the building where the nation’s highest court resides.
- Collect Canada’s coins by the roll. Each colourized special wrap roll contains 25 selectively colourized $1 150th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada commemorative circulation coins, which come in a custom paper wrap. An non-colourized special wrap roll of engraved-only $1 coins is also available – collect both versions!

- All are uncirculated coins. Inside each special wrap roll, all 25 coins are uncirculated: they all have a newly minted quality and feature the same colour-enhanced reverse design.
- Limited supply. Only 15,000 rolls available.

The reverse design by Canadian artist Silvia Pecota features a front view of the Supreme Court of Canada Building, located just west of the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario. Beneath the maple leaf laser mark is the Court’s 150ᵗʰ commemorative logo; derived from the Court’s historic badge known as the Cormier Emblem, the commemorative logo consists of a semi-circle of laurels representing the nine judges and the Court’s work, with the leaves expanding around the circle to signify growth. While the double dates (“1875 – 2025”) commemorate the 150ᵗʰ anniversary of the Court’s creation, the interwoven “150” numerals reflect the Court’s commitment to legal accessibility and inclusivity, and the dualities of bijuralism (common law and civil law) and bilingualism (English and French) that make Canada’s top court globally unique. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
The Supreme Court of Canada licensed material is used courtesy of the Office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court of Canada.
